Capital Allocation Frameworks
Building the Investment Discipline That Compounds a Family's Wealth
Abisola Oladapo, CoreLoop Institute · SLW-003 · Published

Executive summary
Investing asks whether a given opportunity is good. Capital allocation asks whether it is the best available use of a finite resource, relative to every other claim on it. This monograph builds the consistent system a family needs for deciding where capital goes, and why.

Every claim on capital is legitimate
Reinvestment in an existing business, debt reduction, a new acquisition, a diversified portfolio, liquidity reserves, distributions to family members, philanthropic commitments — each claim is legitimate, and none can be evaluated responsibly in isolation, because capital committed to one use is capital unavailable for every other use.
The central risk in capital allocation is not making a bad individual investment. It is making a long, unbroken series of individually reasonable decisions that were never weighed against one another.
